In Salem, Virginia

I got on the Parkway mon.am,. The park ranger at the gate was impressed with my cause so did not charge me to enter.. that was great, but then when I needed gas after 60 miles, I had to get off the parkway to go into a town to get it.. Well, then I realized I did not have a receipt from the first ranger and would have to pay each time I got off to get gas(no stations on the parkway)so my trip on the skyline was not as long as I thought it would be,  but was very beautiful and cool.

It does get a little boring going 35mph when you have been hitting 60mph for the last several days.   It was so hot as well when I left the Skyline Parkway that I just felt I needed to move along. The entire skyway as another wonderful project during the WPA times.  The eastern states seem to have gotten alot of WPA projects thanks to an administration with alot of forsight.  The entire Skyline/Blue Ridge  Parkway  is almost 500 miles long. The workers made brick walls along the roadway where needed and of course  built the lookouts etc.  This is certainly a project that will be here for many generations.

I am glad I got to ride on  part of it as it is a beautiful ride to be enjoyed by all Americans.
