July 5, 2008 - 3:07 PM Fron Dunkirk, Indiana Vagabond Granny here.. I have spent the past week in Dunkirk, Indiana. In better economic times, the glass capital of the us. They use to make Kerr and Ball canning jars here, but now I think the only or biggest production is glass beer bottle for Budweiser. It is not hard to imagine this as a thriving town at one time, but when industry shuts done, so do the towns' jobs and economy. It is still a nice little town, about 25 miles ne of Muncie. They are having their fire works tonight so all we have to do is sit on the porch and we have a good view. There is supposed to be a car show in the park first, so when we see activity over there we will take the camera and find some cars I hope. Tomorrow, I will leave to see a gal I graduated High school with many, many, years ago.. They winter in FL and we have a reunion in Ft.Myers every year, but I will stop to see her this year as well.. They live in Zionsville,In. just nw of indianapolis. It is hard to believe I have travelled 4400 miles so far, am halfway now, only 3 more rallies to go but still 2 mos. time. I am trying to get some press set up for Mo. as I will be there with the grandkids for the month of Aug. and have ties there so the press may be easier to get. I am looking forward to seeing my family in Mo. but have certainly enjoyed this tour so far. The bike has run well, I am out of the mountainous areas, and only been really drenched a couple of times. I have enjoyed meeting so many survivors and hope I have gotten word out to many people through the brochures and just meeting me. I feel like Hansel and Gretal dropping bread crumbs as there now are brochures in places from NY to IN that will help get the word out for early detection and its importance early screening... Well, need to help get a dish ready for the crowd this afernoon and find some cars at the park so had best get a wiggle on. Tuesday will start the next rally, the Motor Maids. It will be my first convention as they call it for them, this group is 68 yrs old, the oldest there is, and was founded in an effort to promote the fact that women could ride motorcycles and still be ladies.. I will send pics from that one soon as we do have uniforms and it is an impressive sight. To all who are following my blogs I do thank you and ask that you keep it up, as it is appreciated and I hope the blogs are interesting to you. I have certainly learned alot about our country in areas I had not explored before and that keeps you young. Until my next blog from Columbus, IN this is Vagabond Granny signing off..(no video at this time as the signal is not strong enough)Vagabond Granny
