July 27, 2008 - 2:13 PM At Trike Rally! Vagabond Granny here, I finally passed my trike test, so am supposed to be more qualified to operate this machine now! It was a good 6 hr class, 3 in classroom, 3 on the range course, mostly improving skills and techniques. I have several offers of rooms if I am through Texas any time so that is always good to know. This has been a different convention. A lot of nice people, but not a real lot of stuff to do. Of course I have ridden around here before but we also had a terrible storm last night that nixed the light show and parade so that knocked that out. This afternoon, I believe there was to be an ice cream social, but I often am lactose intolerant when it comes to ice cream and taking a chance on it is not in the equation right now. I don't think I fully recovered from the stomach flu and some more chinese food last night did not help the cause so needless to say I was a bit puny this a.m. Finally got some Gatorade and have drank a good bit of that this afternoon and it has helped. It has been horribly hot, very humid and for some reason that has bothered me this time so perhaps I have not fully recovered from the flu yet. That was only 4 days ago, sometimes things take longer as we get older. At any rate, I don't plan on doing anything tonight, but resting up as it will be hot again tomorrow, but will only be on the road for 4 hrs. I did take in some donations at my safety class and talked with many folks. They all seem to have stories of ladies with breast cancer but I seem to be hearing more and more of survivors, with many years so that is always encouraging. I talked with a man yesterday at the rally, he has a 27 yrs old son who has brain damage as a result of a tractor accident, now his daughter has had a mastectomy but there is a spot on her liver yet they have not been able to treat..My heart goes out to them. We talked for a good half hour, then as he got up to leave he gave me a generous donation for UBCF which brought tears to my eyes..Of course I gave him the brochure and key chain and pin, and hopefully if he needs help at least he knows UBCF is there and he was going to pass that on to his wife.. I still have one rally to go although am working to get to talk with Joyce Meyers Ministries or at least be able to pass out brochurse to interested employees etc. That request is in the mill so to speak. I will be in her area all of Aug. so I feel some arrangements will be made.. My son will be doing some work on the bike during that time. He has gotten the new parts; he old ones have just deteriorated with age, but vital to a good running bike. When I took the safety test today, my trike was the oldest, plainest one there but it got me here and I do love it. I was also the only woman to take the test(you are never too old to learn..)! I will blog again when I get back to my son's this week. I need to take my wifi card in for replacement, this one gets hot and they are not supposed to do that. I have already called and they said it is defective so I hope to get that sorted out. I can still get on at my son's as he has dsl or broadband so definitely will send video blog on to you again soon. Really got scalped yesterday, a nice young man cut my hair but think he got enamored with my story and cut a little toooo short.. Oh well, I shoud not need another cut before I get home for sure. Thanks again for following my story. I know I have touched alot of folks, from gas stations, rest areas, just clerks in stores and of course the rallies. My prayer is that somewhere down the line someone will be helped by UBCF and a curable cancer will be found through early detection.I also hope someone will seek other help through them and be able to get on with their lives in a more healthful and comfortable way..then I will feel I have accomplished my mission. Till next time........Vagabond Granny here, ride safe.... | Joann's StoryThis was the first time in my life (63 yrs. old) when I found myself without a job - no income and no health insurance. Shortly after, I noticed a 'lump' on my breast. Call or Click |
