Maria's StoryMaria is a 57 year old Latina who, despite living in the area for several years, came to Venice Family Clinic for the first time last winter to follow up on a visit to the emergency room. She went to the emergency room because she had chest pains. However, once there, she requested to be released with minimal treatment because she did not have insurance. The hospital referred her to the Clinic. At VFC, Maria received a complete primary care evaluation including a referral for an on-site mammogram screening because she had not had one in years. She was hesitant to schedule an appointment because she did not want to miss work again to come to the Clinic. The patient coordinator urged her to return, emphasizing the importance of early detection. Maria decided to schedule the screening. On the day of her appointment, Maria was the first patient to be screened. Afterwards, she approached the coordinator and said, "Thank you for convincing me to do this. Now, I don’t have to worry about breast cancer. I know I am healthy." As she walked towards the door, she said "See you next time!" | Joann's StoryThis was the first time in my life (63 yrs. old) when I found myself without a job - no income and no health insurance. Shortly after, I noticed a 'lump' on my breast. Call or Click |
