Carol's Story

Meet Carol, a 52 year old woman, whose last mammogram was approximately twelve to fourteen years ago. Carol received a free mammogram at the December 2008 mammogram clinic. When asked to describe the opportunity to receive a free mammogram, Carol replied, “This means everything to me. Without this opportunity, I would not have been able to obtain a mammogram.  I do not have health insurance, and it has been twelve to fourteen years since my last mammogram.”

Carol has a family history of ovarian cancer, which makes her at risk for breast cancer.  Her Grandmother died of ovarian cancer at age 56.  She also has a 52 year old cousin that is presently suffering from ovarian cancer. Carol’s mammogram results were normal.  “I don’t have to worry like I did before.  I don’t have to be unsure, wondering if there is a problem. Now, I have peace of mind.”
