Ema's StoryAt the age of 50 Ema first came to Venice Family Clinic seeking information on menopause. She received a thorough physical exam which revealed she was long overdue for a mammogram. The doctor referred her to a nearby diagnostic facility. However, Ema failed to attend the appointment three times. Her doctor asked why she was unable to keep her appointments. He wondered if it was due to her job schedule or transportation. She said it was none of those reasons. Ema finally opened up to her doctor and explained that her sister had been diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 49 and was scared she would have it, too. The doctor acknowledged her fears and told her that a way to face the possibility is by knowing the truth. Besides, whatever the outcome, he would be there to help her through it. He also proposed that, instead of going somewhere else for the screening, she should have it done at the Clinic where she already knows the staff. She liked the idea. One year later, Ema is once again waiting for her mammogram exam. Although her test came back normal a year before, Ema admits she is still nervous but knows she will get the same great care she received before, due in part to the support of the United Breast Cancer Foundation. | Dena's StoryMy mother's ordeal with breast cancer has affected me greatly in obvious and subtle ways. I will always cherish the time I had with my mother... Call or Click |
