Breast
Cancer Retreat
The theme of this year’s Retreat for Women with Breast Cancer was “Heart”.
Yoga and tai chi classes, a program on forgiveness and an art activity all focused
on the heart, offering ways to heal the heart and make a broken or wounded heart
whole. Twenty-seven women who were new to us in the last year laughed, cried,
danced, and sang.
Here’s what some of the women who attended said about the Retreat for Women
with Breast Cancer
It was the first dedicated time since this (cancer) started for me to retreat
from everything else for an extended time and focus my energies on my heartfelt
feelings – to heal my heart.
The sharing of the retreat members of experiences, feelings and going through
breast cancer treatments have given me a sense of not being alone; their courage,
hope and honesty helps me finding hope and courage in myself and also to be more
honest with myself and others.
It was so helpful to talk with all the other wonderful women and realize
what a ‘sisterhood’ we have. I’ve only shared this experience
with one other breast cancer survivor so it really was great learning of others’ experiences.
We are very appreciative of the support of the United Breast Cancer Foundation
that made the Retreat for Women with Breast Cancer possible and for the wonderful
participation of our contract staff, Dympna Ferrante and Charlene
Nevan. We are also pleased to report back that the women loved the blankets made
just for them by Penny Lashner and her friends.
